Sutherland House is a beautifully restored building, rich in history that now operates as a fabulous venue for drinks, meals, functions and accommodation. Under the care of its owners Andy & Kinga Rudd, the fine building has been given a new lease of life, and offers a cosy and welcoming environment, complete with wood burning stoves, rich fabrics and lovingly prepared food.

Brief

Sutherland House had been an Infotex client for over 9 years, and initially approached us wanting their website to be updated to be responsive to mobile and tablet traffic.

Another key requirement was that they wanted as many customers as possible to book through the website itself, rather than through third parties such as bookings.com.

In terms of look and feel, Sutherland House wanted the site architecture to be stripped back to its fundamental elements, with a focus on large clean imagery and the use of banners to convey information.

On their original website, Sutherland House had their menus displayed as .pdf files; they now would prefer that they were available as pages that could be quickly and easily updated and edited via the content management system (CMS).

Finally, a customised Google map would be developed for the Contact page, with a variety of social media links and award logos displayed in the footer, for well-rounded site navigation.

Action

We initiated the production process with Sutherland House after a productive meeting followed by designs and feedback. They wanted to retain the same branding that their existing website had, but with changes to the site’s colour palette and fonts.

Their new website was built upon our “Flexipress” platform (the old one was on an older, “Flexisite” platform). “Calls to action” (CTAs) for booking, phone numbers and check-in times were cleverly employed across every page to communicate information to prospective customers.

Result

The new Sutherland House website looks modern and sophisticated, with no compromise to its ease of use and informative nature. Its use of columns helps to break up content and its use of beautiful, high-resolution imagery produces images of food that look simply mouth-watering. This design, paired with regular CTAs encouraging visitors to book and get in touch, means that it’s not surprising that Andy has been recommending our services to some of his customers!
